Q & A VERONIKA LONDON AND THE INDEPENDENT TORONTO FILM SCENE What are your thoughts of the Independent film Scene? I’ve been extremely lucky to work with some really great talent in the Indie film scene. I’m very much drawn to actor driven roles which I find it seems to be a niche in Independent film project as the budgets are not for Hollywood Glam. Have you worked with the “brainchild’s” (Mike or Kyle) of Screamfest before? Yes, I worked with Director Mike Klassen about a year ago on a short grindhouse film named “Stripped”. Are their any other directors whose films are being screened at the event that you have worked with? Yes, I worked with Marc Roussel on a short film named “The Elusive Man” which recently won BEST DIRECTING at the International Action On Film in California. I learned something very important during the casting and audition for this project. Directors/producers will sometimes cast completely the opposite of what they had in mind.
My part was initially intended for a male actor. I play the leader of a mob. Any bad experiences working on an independent project? Ha, interesting question! I wouldn’t say “bad” more like challenging. In a nutshell there is really nothing glamorous about this industry besides attending screenings and premiers. Till this date, what has been your favorite project to work on either short or feature? I’ve taken, learned something from all projects. One that stands out is “Jane Doe”. It has been my favorite because it has been my most challenging.
I knew I was opening up an internal can of poison worms by taking on the role but I figured if “it” didn’t kill me in real life then something magical was bound to happen in front of the camera. You moved up pretty quick in a span of a year, how did you do it? After my training, auditioning about 13 times a week on all projects and meeting new people. I really believe it’s all about being at the right place and right time prepared. You can only obtain that by continuously putting yourself “out there’. What roles are you more inclined to take on? Depends on my state- anything reckless, villain type or heroic. I use acting as a form of expression. Whatever I feel in my life is usually portrayed on the roles I take on. What Canadian actors do you admire?Any Canadian directors you would like to work with? Atom Egoyan. Unlike some reviews, I really enjoyed the movie Chloe, but then again I’m drawn to projects that more disturbing yet intriguing to watch. Some major Hollywood film have been described as not being honest and truthful in the arts – do you think Independent films are more honest and truthful? I aspire to work in major Hollywood Blockbuster films. I believe an actor can bring truth and honesty to any project- that’s our job- to showcase honesty and truth from imaginary circumstances that we must believe are real despite how crazy they might be. That’s why some of us go crazy after- For more information on Toronto Screamfest Check out: www.facebook.com/torontoscreamfestwww.twitter.com/torontoscreamswww.skgfilms.comwww.facebook.com/skgfilms
