Old homes removed from Gympie

TWO old Queenslanders will be removed from the Gympie streetscape forever.

One on the corner of the Bruce Hwy and River Tce is owned by the State Government, the other on the corner of River Rd and Young St by a local business.

Yesterday David Wright of Burpengary business David Wright House Removers said he could not speak to the media about the house removal on the highway but did say the house would be gone by today.

It was being moved last night after his removal team arrived on site yesterday morning and cut the home in half to fit on two trucks.

The house is being taken to the removal company Childers holding yard.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokeswoman said the house was being removed because the property at the corner of the Bruce Hwy and River Tce was no longer needed for infrastructure planning

a result, the land will be sold in accordance with whole of government land policies for disposal, the spokeswoman said.

of this process meant the existing house had to be removed.

A few streets away Dean McDonald of Gold Coast based McDonald House Haulage said the old Queenslander on Young St would most likely be moved tomorrow night.

That home is being jacked up by the company and has been cut in half already.

It is being taken to Maryborough where, Mr McDonald says, old period homes like the one he was working on were not allowed to be removed.

He also arrived on site yesterday morning.

The asbestos roof from the five bedroom, two bathroom home was removed last week before work commenced on raising it.

It will make way for Dobbrick Financial Services to build new offices for its financial planning business and Elders Insurance franchise.

The business hopes to start building next financial year.

Principal of Dobbrick Financial Services Ross Dobbrick said the house was originally built by the Dodt family in the 1930s and was being taken to Yangaree to be restored to its grandeur

He said once the new offices were complete there would be space for rent.
